Parliament: Composition & Procedure of the Senate
- Article 59 deals with the composition of the Senate, which currently consists of 96 members representing the provinces, Federal Capital, and Federally Administered areas equally, ensuring provincial parity.
- General seats per province: Each of the four provinces is allocated 14 general seats in the Senate.
- Non-Muslim seats: There are 4 seats reserved for non-Muslims in the Senate (one from each province).
- Technocrat seats: There are 4 seats reserved for technocrats/Ulema from each province.
- Term: Senators serve for a term of 6 years, with half the membership retiring every 3 years, ensuring continuity of the House.
- Chairman of the Senate: The Senate is presided over by its Chairman, who also acts as President in certain circumstances of vacancy.
