Parliament: Presiding Officer, Dissolution & President's Powers
- Speaker: The National Assembly is presided over by the Speaker, elected by the Assembly from among its members; in his absence, the Deputy Speaker presides.
- Dissolution (Article 58): The President shall dissolve the National Assembly if so advised by the Prime Minister, and the Assembly stands dissolved 48 hours after such advice.
- Election of the President: Under the Constitution, the President is elected indirectly by an Electoral College consisting of members of Parliament and the Provincial Assemblies (Article 41 read with the Second Schedule).
- Ordinances (Article 89): When the National Assembly is not in session, the President may promulgate an Ordinance having the force of law, on the advice of the Federal Government, if satisfied that circumstances require immediate action.
