Ijtihad and the Concept of Mujtahid

- Definition: Ijtihad represents the original interpretation of problems not precisely covered by the Holy Quran and Hadith. Derived from the word 'Judh', which means endeavour, strain exertion, and trouble.Ijtihad means consensus of opinion (scholarly consensus).
- Mujtahid: Defined as an independent jurist who is qualified to derive the law directly from the primary sources through systematic interpretation.
- Qualifications: Qualifications include an aptitude for ijtihad, knowledge of al-Kitab (Quran), and knowledge of ijma. Knowledge of Latin is EXCEPTED (not required).
